Desktop PC's

A desktop computer is a personal computer that usually sits on or under a desk. It has a monitor or another display, keyboard, mouse, and either a horizontal or vertical (tower) form factor. Unlike a laptop, which is portable, a desktop computer usually stays in one location. The advantages of a desktop computer are numerous - simply put - if you need more storage space you can add drives likewise need more memory simply add or upgrade your RAM. Need high resolution graphics adding a graphics card will do the trick as too upgrading your screen say from 17" to 26" so you can play any game or use any application. When it comes to software theres really no limit. Apps, programs and various operating systems can all run on a desktop PC.

A tablet PC is basically an app based computer - like your mobile phone has apps a tablet PC is basically a bigger version of your mobile phone ie. bigger screen. It's portable, lightweight, and makes email and web-browsing very easy wherever you are. It can store files even play games. Its storage capability is limited as too is its memory and resources. Laptop PC's

A laptop computer is a portable personal computer. Considerably smaller than a desktop PC and is powered by a battery, or an AC cord plugged into an electrical outlet. Laptops have an attached keyboard and touchpad, and a thin display screen that is attached and can be folded flat for transport. Its usually less than three inches thick, and weighs much less than desktop computers so the laptop's size makes it much more convenient for transportation in briefcases, backpacks, and other bags. It derives its "laptop" name from its easy use by resting on a person's lap while sitting without the need for a desk or other surface. Laptop computers may also be referred to as notebook computers, though a notebook computer usually describes a computer that is smaller and lighter than a traditional laptop computer.

Laptop computers can be used at a desk and can be used similarly as a desktop-style computer by connecting a separate monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Laptops have ports and other interfaces similar to desktop computers, such as USB ports, network interface cards, audio speakers, digital media drives, and memory card slots (such as SD card readers), which are often built into the laptop computer by the manufacturer. Additional peripherals may be connected to a laptop computer through available expansion slots, through USB or serial ports or wirelessly via a Bluetooth connection.

Cameras

There are many different types of cameras for both amateur and professional so choosing the best one to suit your needs can be quite overwhelming. Using your new Smartphone with triple camera's is one thing but at some point you may want higher image quality so here are some of the more common various camera types that you should consider.

Digital Compact Cameras

Also known as a point-and-shoot camera. A compact camera is an inexpensive entry-level camera for the amateur digital photographer. Sometimes referred to as a "point and shoot" camera these cameras are small and lightweight with built in flash and zoom lens they usually come with standard, automatic settings. They do lack an optical viewfinder but are the most user friendly of any of the types of cameras options. With an LCD screen you can see your subject beforehand and you just point your camera at your subject and press the button.

These cameras are simply ease of use cameras with limited controls. The downside is that they have a very small sensor which doesn’t allow for great picture quality or printing large images. Compact cameras are great for beginners and amateurs but are not suitable for professional use.

Digital Zoom Compact Cameras

Compact zoom cameras have a more powerful zoom lens which provides a much greater magnification ability usually ranging from 28-300mm. With automatic exposure settings as well as manual options and HD recording these types of cameras do not offer interchangeable lenses though most models offer at least 12 megapixels which is excellent for your personal images. As with other compact cameras, these are great for beginners and amateurs but are not suitable for professional use.

Advanced Digital Compact Cameras

If you need more control over your photos than what a regular compact camera provides then these types of cameras for the more experienced are a good solution. Advanced compact cameras provide manual exposure mode and manual focusing which makes them much more versatile than regular compact cameras. Adventure Cameras

Action cameras are trending right now with many different models available. Similar in many ways to compact cameras but made to withstand extreme conditions. Weatherproof and shockproof, with their lens usually behind very durable glass. Action cameras are very small, yet offer a lot of versatility and high resolution for their size. Some models are no bigger than a matchbox and are completely enclosed in a watertight enclosure. Most of these are "fun" cameras not suitable for professional use as they have very small sensors, lack interchangeable lenses, an optical viewfinder or even an electronic viewfinder.

DSLRs – Digital Single Lens Reflex

Most professional cameras being used today are DSLRs. Digital SLRs are for serious amateurs and professionals alike. Much larger and heavier than compact cameras their design and function comes from film cameras. The higher-end models have a full-frame sensor though many come with a cropped-sensor which is cheaper for camera manufacturers to make. And it allows DSLRs to be accessible to a wide variety of consumers.

With lenses that are interchangeable how they behave will depend on whether the camera you choose has a cropped sensor or a full-frame sensor. There are numerous Lens options for these cameras for amateur and professional photographers alike. Depending on budget inexpensive wide ranging lenses to much more expensive lines aimed at top professional photographers.

DSLRs offer a variety of manual settings and creative controls. You can also take images in Automatic mode with these types of cameras offering Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, and Manual mode as well. The main benefits of DSLR cameras is that they have an optical viewfinder which come in a range of sensor sizes, some being APS-C while others are full-frame. The Shutter speeds can reach faster ranges and have a better low-light capability.

Compact Mirrorless Cameras

The name “mirrorless” is referring to the fact that there is no internal mirror reflecting light onto the sensor. Any light that comes in through the lens goes straight to the sensor. This is then transmitted on to the LCD screen.

Some people believe that mirrorless cameras are the trend of the future offering most of the features of a DSLR camera but smaller, lighter, and generally less expensive. Many professional photographers are switching over to mirrorless cameras using them as an alternative to their usual DSLRs, such as while travelling.

Mirrorless cameras are a powerful alternative to the DSLR often using an electronic viewfinder rather than an optical viewfinder. Versatile with high-performance these types of cameras allow you a lot of control over your results. From quick change lenses they also have a ton of features for creative control. Some models offer facial recognition and have focus points in every part of the frame. This is excellent for event or wedding photography.

Most offer high resolution and video, and also WiFi capability which allows you to remotely control your camera so you can use your smart device from a distance. Capable of capturing incredible, high-resolution images these types of cameras are comparable to some of the best DSLRs out there at a lower price point.

Lenses

In any kind of photography, using the right lens is crucial for achieving the perfect shot turning your photographs from amateurish to professional. So choose your lens wisely. No single lens will work for everyone, as each photographer has their own unique needs. It's important to know your photography requirements first before you look for a lens. To narrow down your choices we have outlined the following 5 factors to help you choose the right lens

1. Focal Length

A focal length is the distance (in millimetres) from the center of the lens to the sensor when the subject is in focus. The lower the number, the wider the shot. The higher the number, the longer the zoom. So if you want to fit more into your picture, you should look into wide-angle focal lengths: 14mm, 20mm, 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm.

If you need close up pictures then choosing a telephoto lens with focal lengths that usually range from 50 to 100mm will do the job. Just make sure that you get one with an f2.8 aperture so that adequate light can still pass through.

2. Aperture

This is the measure of how much light can enter your camera. Represented by the letter f and corresponding numbers, collectively known as an f-stop. Smaller aperture numbers like f1.2 means its opening is wider allowing more light to come into the lens, perfect for shooting in low light situations.

3. Prime lens or Zoom lens?

• A prime lens incorporates more brightness into your shots allowing you tweak and correct shooting errors easily. A Zoom lens allows getting as close as possible to the subject.
• The prime lense is smaller and lighter than average zoom lenses which are large and bulky - though you only require one zoom lens to cover a full range of focal length against the fixed focal length of the prime lens which requires additional lenses of different focal lengths for various shooting ranges.
• The prime lens focal length is fixed at one number and cannot be changed. To change the angle of view, the camera has to be physically moved unlike the zoom lens which can handle a variety of shooting situations because of its variable focal length.
• The Prime Lens is cheaper because of its simple construction against the more expensive, but cost effective single zoom lens. Multiple prime lenses equals cost of one zoom lens
• The Prime lens provides Sharp and crisp photos even in low light against the zoom lens which provides standard quality best for shooting scenes from afar.
• The Prime lens is generally faster in aperture; ideal for shooting fast-moving subjects whereas the zoom lens lacks fast aperture but makes up for it with image stabilization features like Canon’s Image Stabilization, Nikon’s Vibration Reduction or Tamron’s Vibration Compensation, which allow you to use extremely slow shutter speeds to take sharp photos of still objects.

Prime lenses are further classified into different lens types, each serving a specific purpose.

• Standard: Captures images just as you see it. Comes in 35-80mm focal length.
• Wide-Angle: Enables snapping a broader view of a place or scene. Ideal for shooting large groups of people and landscapes.
• Fish-eye: A variation of the wide-angle lens. Gives off the effect of a cross between a panoramic and a spherical perspective.
• Telephoto: Brings distant subjects closer without distorting the image. Usually comes with a lens of 75-300 mm.
• Super telephoto: Allows reaching more distant subjects with its 200-400 mm range. Bird photographers usually vouch for this lens

There are two types of classification for zoom lens

• Digital zoom: Crops the image to a smaller size then resizes it to fit the frame for a closer view
• Optical zoom: Changes the focal length and increases magnification according to your preferred distance

Finally there is the macro lens that can either be a prime lens or a zoom lens. Not to be mistaken for the telephoto lens, the macro lens allows taking photos of minute objects and tiny creatures like insects and food, making them appear bigger than they actually are.

4. Compatibility with your camera’s sensor

In digital cameras, the sensor records the image when you press on the shutter, Sensors in DSLR cameras are bigger than sensors in point-and-shoot cameras, so the images produced are clearer and more realistic.

There are two types of sensors: the CCD (Charged-Couple Device) and the CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor). The CMOS sensor is larger than the CCD and can capture more light, which allows it to produce higher-quality images than the CCD. This difference in size can also affect the structure and overall function of your camera, so make sure the lens you get is compatible with your camera’s specs and body.
